a.k.a. Kim Kardashian Blood Facial

Every now and then, the beauty industry throws us a wild card - a new strange way to turn back time or to momentarily stop the clock. One such treatment that's growing in popularity is PRP injections, and in case you haven’t heard by now, Kim Kardashian has tried it out.

She posted this eerie looking picture post treatment to show the specks of blood on her skin - and while it does look a bit sore PRP is fast becoming a celebrity must-try treatment. PRP refers to Platelet Rich Plasma - which is effectively a composition of your own blood - that is injected into the areas you wish to plump up.

1. The injector uses fillers to create a beautiful shape.

2. The physician then isolates growth factors from the patient’s blood.

3. Finally, when these growth factors enter the face (injected by the physician), the muti-potent stem cells become activated to grow new tissue. This new tissue includes new collagen, new fatty tissue (for smoothness), and new blood vessels (for a healthy glow).

At first it can sound gory - which has given rise to nicknames such as the Vampire Facial and Blood Facial - but having seen the actual results this procedure can achieve, it's clear that the spookiest thing about PRP injections is the results! You mysteriously start to look fresher faced in the months following your treatment.
